Kilauea Ike Trail

Most of Volcano National was closed and there was no lava on the surface so we decided to go for a short hike. The 4 mile Kilauea Ike trail was perfect for this. The hike is a couple of hours long and is a great break after the long drive from the Kona side. The trail starts at the Kilauea Ike lookout point which is just off Crater Rim Drive and is about 4 miles.

Distance: 4 miles
Time: 2 hours
Elevation Gain: 460 feet

Beautiful. How strenuous is this hike? Can children (appx. age 10 who are used to hiking) make it easily? We are going next year.

This hike is pretty easy. Maybe a 3 on a scale of 10. When we went there was a bus full of school kids down in the crater.
